Why Go Modern?

Modern has long been a popular interior design style, bringing out the best qualities of your home with a clean and uncluttered style, emphasising your carefully chosen furnishings.

Modern emphasises geometric and smooth shapes such as ovals, rectangles and squares and has as much to do with architecture as it does with furnishings.

Modern homes between the 50's and 60's created depth in open spaces using wall divides and changes in elevation - modern homes today are little different with larger open plan rooms, floor to ceiling windows and good height ceilings.

Be careful what you choose for your modern home - you'll need smooth textures such as glass, metal and plastic and many modern homes will not be carpeted as wood, tile or polished concrete floors with geometric rugs give a strong modern feel. Other textures can be added in small doses for contrast, such as wood and brick.

Occasionally, some people use the terms 'modern' and 'contemporary' as complimentary but when it comes to interior design they are very distinct and contemporary is a one size fits all for the most up to date and cutting edge trends in design.
